How it works

  1. 01Paste or type the IMEI.
  2. 02See instantly whether it is valid.
  3. 03Review the breakdown of each part.

What makes an IMEI valid

A valid IMEI has 15 digits and its last digit matches the Luhn checksum of the first 14. A 16-digit IMEISV has no check digit; its last two digits are the software version.

Valid doesn't mean clean

A valid IMEI can still be blacklisted, locked or cloned. To check the phone's status, get a safety report.

Anatomy of an IMEI

Every IMEI has the same 15-digit structure. Each part tells you something different.

350020981234564
TAC#1–8

Type Allocation Code. Identifies the manufacturer and exact model. The first two digits are the reporting body.

Serial#9–14

Unique number the manufacturer assigns to this single device.

Check digit#15

Calculated from the other 14 with the Luhn formula. Catches typos.
