What is an ICCID?

The Integrated Circuit Card Identifier is the 18–22 digit serial number printed on every SIM card and stored on its chip. It starts with 89 (the telecom industry code), followed by the country calling code, the issuer and the account number, and ends with a Luhn check digit.

ICCID vs IMEI vs IMSI

The IMEI identifies the phone, the ICCID identifies the physical SIM card, and the IMSI identifies the subscriber on the network. Swapping your SIM changes the ICCID and IMSI but not the IMEI.

Anatomy of an IMEI

Every IMEI has the same 15-digit structure. Each part tells you something different.

350020981234564
TAC#1–8

Type Allocation Code. Identifies the manufacturer and exact model. The first two digits are the reporting body.

Serial#9–14

Unique number the manufacturer assigns to this single device.

Check digit#15

Calculated from the other 14 with the Luhn formula. Catches typos.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I find my ICCID?

It's printed on the SIM card and its holder. On iPhone see Settings → General → About; on Android, Settings → About phone → SIM status.

Are generated ICCIDs real SIM cards?

No. They pass validation but are random and not issued to any SIM. Use them only for testing.

Why does my ICCID have 20 digits?

Lengths vary by operator: 19 and 20 digits are the most common.
